Thanks to our coaches (Corey Bass, Eric Derby, Todd Griffith, and Noah Glenn) and our volunteer coaches (Lance Burckhardt and Mike Tschida) for agreeing to work with our boys right up until the day of the tournament…..Bob Adams, Todd Griffith, Mike Berdahl, and Lance Burckhardt all went down to Cedar Falls to corner our boys….thank you so very much for your efforts!!!  They are truly appreciated.

We managed to have four of our athletes achieve All American Status…..congratulations on a job well done.  I can’t tell you how proud I was watching our kids battle like the warriors they are.

For those of you who have signed up for Freestyle/Greco portion of the program, I am looking forward to see you at 6:30 pm on Thursday for practice, remember our scheduled tournament is in Apple Valley on Friday and Saturday (more details to follow) ….and the rest of you I am looking forward to seeing you all next season in early November!!

2/5/08

No practice on Thursday night of this weekOur High School team will be taking it to Andover at the High SchoolAlso remember to take in the Anoka/Coon Rapids duel on Friday.  Our High School team is ready and there will be H*ll to pay.

Folks, our MYAS tournament is sneaking up on us (March 1st and 2nd).  All our kids who are PRE-K to 2nd grade and 7thand 8th graders need to fill out the attached paperwork; I need to have this in Jeremy Inness hand by February 15th.  Please printout the attached handout and bring it to practice on Wednesday.  Jody Hinkle or Mary Shogren will be glad to gather that information from you.   I need to have the documents in the mail by Tuesday of next week. <<entrypacketCR.pdf>> The Mat Bandits club is picking up the registration costsall they want in return is %100 percent effort from our kidssounds like a deal to me.

Thanks to everyone who has so generously donated their time for our tournament on March 1st and 2ndall indications are there should be between 400-500 athletes; a much more manageable number as compared to the 1300 we had last year.  Please check in with Jody Hinkle on Wednesday to revisit your commitment or to see if there is another area you can help with.

Please remember we are having a parents meeting on Wednesday January 30th at CRHS at 7:00 pm in the cafeteria or in 003 on the lower level if the cafeteria is in use.  I want to talk about the MYAS tournament that we are hosting on March 1st and 2nd.

I have been talking about this event for the entire year.  Now the time has come for us to put together a plan to ensure our event is considered the premier State championship in MINNESOTA.  Last year there were 1234 competitors and between 3500 to 4000 spectators at this event.  The numbers caught us off guard, and we are going to do everything we can to ensure we are better prepared.

On MARCH 1st and 2nd, I need the good people of our MAT BANDIT program to step up and help out with various activities.  At last years tournament on we had over 40 volunteers; a number that had never been met in any previous year.  I was and am so proud of that number; and I just know we can match and maybe even exceed it again.  We need the good people of our program to step forward once again and show that type of effort for this upcoming event to be successful.  We want to start several committees; and these committees in turn will in charge of many of the following tasks.

Here is the break down of what we are in need of.

March 1st

Weigh-ins from 1:00 until 3:00:  The EXCEL center is covered.  Although, officially, this is slated to begin at 1:00, Jeremy said we can begin this early.  I want to be ready for 12:00 noon.  We need 12 people to man the scales and record the weights at the Coon Rapids High School.  The weigh-ins will take place in the wrestling room.  The cafeteria will be used to hold the 800+ wresters.  We need 4 people to escort 40 kids down the stairs from the cafeteria and then back up to the cafeteria.  That’s about 20 trips in 3 hours (9 minutes per trip).  We will discuss this more thoroughly at the meeting tomorrow.  That’s approximately 16 people.  If I can get more than 16 people, that would be even better.

Registration:   We will be pre-selling tickets this year during the weigh-ins (11:00 am to 3:00 am).  I will need approximately 12 people for the admissions/registration on Saturday (for weigh-ins and pre-selling tickets) and about 8 people on Sunday to be in charge of admissions.

SETTING UP THE MATS and TABLES ETC:

We will not have access to the GYMNASIUM until between 9:00 and 10:00 PM on Saturday.  That’s when the hard work begins!!!  I need as many volunteers as I can get to help us roll out the mats, chairs and whatever else we need to do.  If we can get 30+ people assembled we can be finished in approximately two hours. PLEASE, at the very LEAST, MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO HELP IN THIS ENDEAVOR!!!

MARCH 2nd

SECURITY:  Lance Newman and Mike Tschida are recruiting our security staff.  We are looking for 10 to 12 volunteers that will circle the perimeter to ensure that there is no tom-foolery or skull duggery go on during the event. Checking washrooms etc…..

CONCESSIONS:  Jim Green is in charge of concessions and he (meaning we) needs your help!!  Last year we only had one area to service 4000 spectators.  As you can well imagine, that didn’t work very well.  We are now adding three additional areas as well as grille that will be running outside (the one and the same used at the Coon Rapids High School Football games).  Ron Adams has agreed to staff the GRILL; we need your help staffing the other 3 areas.  We need 12 volunteers, preferably more so we can cycle in hourly shifts.  It appears are we are paying the girls volley ball team to give us a hand; but we will still need volunteers in this area, as this is where we truly make our money.

TABLE WORKERS:  Bob Adams has been kind enough to offer the HIGH SCHOOL wrestlers and managers as table workers.  There will be 20 tables in total; 3 people per table.  But I still want at some people to step forward and help work tables.  Remember, you will have the best seat in the house!!!!

RUNNERS: This is where brothers and sisters of the wrestlers can really contribute.  Bout sheets need to be run up to the HEAD table and PRONTO.  6 volunteers are required for this task.

AWARDS:  We will need 3-4 people to hand out award this year.

Please make every effort to attend this meeting tomorrow.  Remember, we accept Aunts, Uncles, cousins, nephews etc…….

Our schedule tournament is the Shakopee MN/USA qualifier..once again the MAT BANDITS will be picking up our entry fees for our kids.

First of all no practice today.looks like we are going just Wednesday and Thursday this week.

Saw a lot of great wrestling this weekend in Cambridgetournament went really quick.  I am truly sorry I didnt get more pictures, but I filled up my memory card with pictures from Middle School duel at the Coon Rapids High School on Saturday.  I forgot to load the pictures on my PC prior to leaving for the tournament.  I will post whatever I have from Cambridge on the website www.coonrapidswrestling.com later this week.

This year MYAS has split up there Gopher State open into two separate groups.  Monticello High School will be hosting the first portion of the tournament which will consist of 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th graders.  I have attached the entry forms; <<1_entrypacketMonti.pdf>> it would be great if you would fill them out and hand them into me by Thursday of this week.  I need to get the forms submitted before February 1st, but I would like to have these forms in the mail on Friday of this week.  The MAT BANDITS club will be picking up the $18.00 entry fee for this tournament.  Weigh-ins will be at the Monticello High School from 1-3 on Saturday February 16th.  The actual tournament will be on Sunday February 17th.  Wrestling is tentatively scheduled to begin at 9:00 am on Sunday…pack a lunch it will be long day.

The second portion of the tournament will be hosted by us.  We will be handling the pre-k, K, 1st, 2nd, 7th and 8th grade portion of the tournament……and we need your help pulling this off..

We are having a meeting to discuss the MYAS STATE tournament that we are hosting on March 2nd, and I need you all to attend.  It will be at 7:00 PM Wednesday

,January 30th in the cafeteria.  If the cafeteria is in use we will then meet downstairs in room #003 at the end of the hall opposite the field house.
